Natal Chart Resources

Whether you're learning to cast your first chart or refining your technique, these tools and ephemerides can support your practice. The Baltimore Astrological Society has long pointed students and practitioners toward trusted resources for accurate chart calculation.

For those just beginning their astrological journey, learning to set a natal chart by hand remains one of the most rewarding foundations a student can build. The process of calculating planetary positions, determining ascendants, and placing houses by hand deepens one's understanding of how the heavens map onto a personal birth moment. Even in an age of instant digital calculations, working through the mathematics yourself reveals the logic and rhythm embedded in the craft. Many members of the Baltimore Astrological Society recall that their first hand-cast chart was the moment astrology truly came alive for them, transforming abstract concepts into something tangible and personally meaningful.

Ephemeris tables remain an indispensable companion for anyone serious about chart work, whether you are a seasoned practitioner or a curious newcomer. These tables document the daily positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets, offering the raw data needed to cast accurate charts for any date and location. While printed ephemerides have a long and trusted history, online resources now make planetary data readily accessible to students across the region and beyond. The society encourages members to become comfortable consulting multiple sources, cross-referencing data, and understanding how to read these tables with confidence and care.

Beyond individual calculation, the community aspect of learning astrology cannot be overstated. Monthly gatherings hosted by the society offer a warm, welcoming space where students can bring their questions, share their hand-drawn charts, and receive gentle guidance from more experienced practitioners. These meetings are designed to feel supportive rather than intimidating, honoring every level of knowledge and experience in the room. For many, the friendships formed around a shared love of the stars become as meaningful as the technical skills themselves, reinforcing the sense that astrology is best explored together, not in isolation.

Staying connected with the society's ongoing programs and resources ensures you never miss an opportunity to deepen your practice. Through a simple email list and updates, members receive reminders about upcoming events, workshops, and featured speakers, making it easy to plan ahead and stay engaged. The society also shares recordings and educational materials that allow those unable to attend in person to continue learning at their own pace. Whether you are drawn to the technical precision of chart calculation or the interpretive richness of the symbolic language, there is always something new to explore within this vibrant and welcoming community.
